Lee County Solid Waste updates east Lee County residents about temporary service issues

Collection will be one day later than regularly scheduled day

By Staff | Oct 1, 2020

Lee County Solid Waste customers in Lehigh Acres, Buckingham, Alva, Fort Myers Shores, Tice and the Riverdale area can expect to have their curbside collection picked up a day later than their regular scheduled days this week. The county anticipates all routes will be taken care of by late Saturday.

This update follows an announcement Wednesday that some customers in that area, which is served by the county’s contracted franchise hauler Advanced Disposal, were experiencing service issues and delays.

The county worked with Advanced Disposal management to remedy the situation. Advanced brought in additional drivers and mechanics from outside of Lee County. Solid Waste staff are monitoring all routes in the area today to ensure pickups are happening.

Residents should leave their carts at the curb on their regularly scheduled pickup day. The impacted ZIP codes for this area are 33905, 33920, 33936, 33971, 33972, 33973, 33974 and 33976. Solid Waste refers to this as Area 4.

To keep residents informed, the county will post further updates to Lee County Government Facebook and at www.leegov.com and www.leegov.com/solidwaste.

On Wednesday, many customers in these areas did not have curbside materials picked up. This was due to Advanced Disposal’s drivers staging a walkout. Lee County Solid Waste had no advance notice of potential personnel issues related to the contracted franchise hauler. About 25% of scheduled households in the impacted area received regular service Wednesday.
