Kyle Patrick Orr, 32, was sentenced to life in prison Monday for the murder of a woman in Cape Coral in 2019.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, Orr pled no contest straight to the court on March 10, giving up his right to a trial. Every defendant can plead directly to the court for sentencing.

Prosecutors argued for a life sentence for Orr and received it. The defendant was adjudicated guilty and sentenced for one count of second degree murder by the Honorable Judge Frank Porter.

According to the report from the State Attorney’s Office, on Father’s Day, June 16, 2019, Cape Coral Police responded to an apartment in the southwest Cape after a 911 call was received. A female could be heard screaming and a male voice said, “stop.” Police quickly arrived on scene and heard two screams from a woman inside the apartment. Officers made entry and rendered aid to the victim. She had been stabbed 16 times and died minutes later.

Cape Police captured Orr after witnesses saw him flee with a knife in hand, the report said.
