Fundraiser at Tiki Hut to benefit families of Orlando shooting victims

By Staff | Jun 22, 2016

Heather Gasser approached her boss about wanting to raise some money for the families of the victims of the Orlando Pulse nightclub mass shooting.

“My bartender asked if I would donate some portion of bar sales, but I said no, we’ll donate all bar and kitchen sales,” said Tiki Hut at Dolphin Key Resort owner Magdalena Tengroth. “We want to raise as much as we can. Fridays are busy nights so we are having a silent auction and raffles to raise even more.”

The fundraiser runs from 4-9 p.m. this Friday. Scotty Bryant will entertain with live music from 4-6 p.m. and Rocker entertains from 7-11 p.m.

Other local businesses have chipped in with item donations for the silent auction.

“All my staff (18) agreed to give 10 percent of what they make that night, too,” said Tengroth. “This is not about me, it’s a team effort with my staff. A lot of volunteers have stepped in to help.”

All the money raised will be given to the OneOrlando Fund to distribute to the victims’ families. Donations also can be made online at OneOrlando.org.

The shooting took place in the early morning hours on June 12. A single gunman killed 49 people and wounded more than 50 others in the nightclub over three hours before being shot dead by police.

The Tiki Hut at Dolphin Key Resort is at 1502 Miramar St., Cape Coral.
