Southwest Florida airport reports December traffic
During December, 691,038 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 0.31 percent compared to December 2007.
Passenger traffic for 2008 was down 5.5 percent compared to 2007.
The traffic leader in December was AirTran with 124,516 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were JetBlue at 96,894, Delta at 74,821, Southwest at 63,213 and US Airways at 56,164.
Southwest Florida International Airport had 8,490 aircraft movements including takeoffs and landings, an increase of 1.4 percent over December 2007. Page Field General Aviation Airport saw 6,478 movements, a 1.2 percent decrease from December 2007.
In addition, 3.4 million pounds of air freight moved through both airports in December.
Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.6 million passengers in 2008 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for airport operation or construction.
