Police: Man arrested in connection to fires

MIAMI BEACH (AP) – Police in South Beach say they have arrested a man in connection to suspicious fires.

The Miami Beach Police Department say Joel Paul Williams was arrested on charges including arson in the first degree and carrying a concealed weapon.

Police say they have evidence linking Williams to two fires, and he is a person of interest in four more blazes in South Beach.

Police say four of the buildings were abandoned, while another building had a person living in a unit, but that person wasn’t injured in the fire.

He remains in jail on Thursday on a total of $30,500 bond.

The name of his attorney wasn’t immediately available.
