Man guilty in fatal shooting from scooter
JACKSONVILLE (AP) – A Jacksonville man has been convicted of fatally shooting another man from the back of a motor scooter.
A Duval County jury found 23-year-old Dale Emerson Barriffe Jr. guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder. He faces up to life in prison at his sentencing next month.
Authorities said Barriffe was the passenger on a motor scooter in September 2009 when he shot 23-year-old Terence Lamar Sallins Jr. with a revolver.
A defense attorney questioned how the witnesses could have gotten a good look at the shooter.
The scooter’s driver, 17-year-old Joseph Arnold Thomas, testified against Barriffe. Thomas pleaded guilty to the murder before his own trial began.
