Dolphin affected by Gulf oil spill at Florida facility
MARATHON (AP) – A dolphin who was affected by Gulf oil spill is now living at a marine mammal education and research facility in the Florida Keys.
Louie arrived at the Dolphin Research Center Sunday evening after a flight to Marathon Airport aboard a Coast Guard aircraft.
He was found Sept. 2 stranded on Fourchon Beach, La., with oil on his skin. He was taken to New Orleans’ Audubon Nature Institute and given a small chance of survival.
Louie is estimated to be about 2 years old, and marine mammal experts say he doesn’t have skills necessary to survive in the wild.
