TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Republican Gov. Charlie Crist says it would be “a good idea” for the state GOP to release records of credit cards used by party leaders.

But Attorney General Bill McCollum, a Republican who wants to succeed Crist as governor, Tuesday said that’s party – not public – business.

State party Chairman Jim Greer is stepping down Feb. 20 amid criticism of the party’s financial management.

The Orlando Sentinel has reported he signed a secret contract with former executive director Delmar Johnson that helped boost Johnson’s compensation to $408,000.

The newspaper also reported lavish spending by Johnson charged to the party.

Party leaders will meet Feb. 20 to elect a new chairman.
