1 dead, 2 seriously injured after crash into pond
ORLANDO (AP) – A Jacksonville mother has been killed and two children critically injured after their SUV plunged into a pond at a resort near Orlando’s theme parks.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating how the GMC Yukon, which the family was trying to park, lurched forward and crashed through a fence before soaring over an embankment and into the water.
The SUV ended up on its roof, wheels in the air in 6 feet of water. Passers-by rushed to help, and 33-year-old father Brandon Nesmith escaped with minor injuries.
His fiance, 35-year-old Dana King, was dead on the scene. Three-year-old Brealyn Nesmith and 14-year-old Ariel King were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Two other children received minor injuries.
