Tampa prosecutor running for Fla. attorney general
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Hillsborough County prosecutor Pam Bondi is running for attorney general.
Bondi entered the race Tuesday, challenging Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp and Holly Benson for the Republican nomination.
As well as prosecuting cases, Bondi is a spokeswoman for the state attorney’s office and is often a legal analyst for national news networks.
Bondi has never run for elected office. She says she spent her “entire career prosecuting, not out politicking.”
Her cases have ranged from murder convictions to sending former pitcher Dwight Gooden to prison after a probation violation.
If elected, Bondi says she wants to focus on investigating Medicaid fraud, presciption drug abuse and combating crimes in schools.
