Tallahassee, Fla. (AP) – The Florida Public Service Commission has elected Commissioner Nancy Argenziano as its new leader.

The vote among the five commissioners Tuesday was unanimous.

Argenziano, a former Republican lawmaker, will serve a two-year term as chairwoman beginning in January.

She came to the commission in 2007 with a pro-consumer record as a state representative from 1999 to 2002 and a senator from then until her appointment to the utility-regulatiing panel in 2007.

Argenziano, though, told utility officials “don’t fear and don’t fret” because she would be fair.

Tuesday also was the first day on the job for another former Republican state senator, Curt Kiser, who joined the commission as its new general counsel.
