Commuter train hits car; 2 dead, 1 injured
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – Two people are dead and one injured following a collision between a commuter train and a car in Broward County.
Fort Lauderdale police said the crash happened Thursday morning, just west of Interstate 95.
Witnesses said the car’s driver had stopped on the tracks when the rail crossing arms lowered in front of and behind the car.
The car tried, and failed, to cross the tracks to avoid the train. The crash is under investigation.
Tri-Rail officials expect the investigation to cause significant delays to its service and urge commuters to seek alternate routes and means of transportation.
