Deputy pleads no contest to disorderly conduct

LARGO, Fla. (AP) – A Pinellas County detention deputy accused of exposing himself outside his home has pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge.

A judge withheld adjudication on Monday for 48-year-old Wayne Nichols, who had to pay a $500 fine. In May, a woman walking in Nichols’ neighborhood reported seeing the man standing at the edge of his driveway and talking on a cell phone while not wearing any clothes. Two other women also reported witnessing the incident.

The sheriff’s office forwarded the complaint to the state attorney’s office, which filed the disorderly conduct charge Oct. 1. Nichols failed to attend an Oct. 26 court appearance and was arrested at work two days later.

The sheriff’s office is conducting an internal investigation of Nichols.
