Teen charged with murder, burning remains
DUNNELLON (AP) – A central Florida teen is facing a first-degree murder charge after authorities say he killed a woman and tried to dispose of her body by burning it in a backyard fire pit.
Marion County deputies arrested 19-year-old Zachary Snyder Monday and charged him with the murder of 66-year-old Doris Babcock. The woman and her husband took Snyder into their home several years ago to keep him out of foster care.
When deputies performed a well-being check on Babcock Saturday, they found Synder in the home with six debit or credit cards belonging to Babcock. They later learned that Synder had been burning something in the backyard, which turned out to be human remains.
Babcock was identified Monday through a serial number on a metal pin located in one of her joints.
