New airport gets another new name
PANAMA CITY (AP) – The nation’s first new airport scheduled to open since Sept. 11, 2001, has undergone another name change.
The Northwest Florida-Panama City International Airport became The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport on Wednesday morning.
The airport is set to open in May in western Bay County near Panama City. The County’s airport authority voted to remove the spring break Mecca’s name to appeal to wider range of tourists.
Officials have had trouble settling on a name for the 4,000-acre international airport, which has had several monikers since its inception.
