Man gets 35 years in fatal shooting
SANFORD, Fla. (AP) – An Altamonte Springs man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for fatally shooting a man he found at the home of his former girlfriend.
A Seminole County judge sentenced 19-year-old Jeremy Jair Stevens Monday. He was convicted in June of second-degree murder.
In November 2008, 21-year-old Maxie Lorenzo Graham was at the home of a woman who had recently broken up with Stevens.
A defense attorney argued that Graham pulled a gun first and that Stevens was only defending himself. But no gun was found at the scene at three women at the house said they did not see Graham with a gun.
Stevens was on probation for cocaine possession when the shooting occurred. He could have been sentenced to life.
