Intoxicated bicyclist dies after crash with deputy
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – A reportedly intoxicated man riding a bicycle was hit and killed by a Hillsborough County deputy’s cruiser.
The sheriff’s office reports that 26-year-old Jonathan Loschen was riding his bike in an area east of Tampa Sunday night when he road into the path of Deputy Michael Hannaford. Loschen was taken to a Tampa hospital, where he died.
The sheriff’s office reports that crime scene and traffic homicide units investigated the crash, and Hannaford will return to normal duties.
Tests at the hospital showed Loschen had a blood alcohol level of 0.27, more than three times what the law considers too impaired to drive.
