Woman formally charged with killing child

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) – A central Florida mother has been formally charged with strangling her toddler with her hands and a bra.

A Seminole County grand jury indicted 22-year-old Nioshka Bello on charges of first-degree premeditated murder Tuesday.

Police say Bello strangled 2-year-old Janessa Sandoval on Sept. 25 or the next day in the Casselberry home they shared with Bello’s parents.

A judge last week found Bello to be mentally incompetent. That means her trial will be delayed indefinitely, and she will remain under psychiatric care until she is competent to aid in her defense.

Bello was taken into custody Sept. 29. Earlier that day, authorities say Bello tried to kill herself by overdosing on Benadryl pills.
