PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP) – A Panama City Beach toddler who took a nail to his head is making progress one month later while his parents are being held in jail on drug and child abuse charges.

Bay County sheriff’s investigators said Tuesday that the 18-month-old was doing well and is currently in foster care.

Police said John Paul Huskey was high on methamphetamines a month ago and broke a chair while jumping on it, sending nails flying, including one that was impaled into the side of the child’s head.

Authorities said the parents waited until the next day to call for medical help.

John Paul and Jessica Huskey are being held in jail on bond. They are charged with possession of meth, aggravated child abuse and other charges.

Their arraignment is Nov. 5.
