TALLAHASSEE (AP) – Scores for Florida fourth and eighth grade students on the National Assessment of Educational Progress math test remained stable this year.

Results released Wednesday show fourth grade students scored an average of 242 points on the test in 2009. That’s three points higher than the nationwide average.

Eighth grade students scored 279 on average, three points lower than the national average.

Neither of the scores was significantly different from 2007.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress is a series of federally funded tests assessing children in nine subject areas. Nationwide, fourth grade students made no improvement over 2007, while eighth grade students continued to post gains.
