PANAMA CITY (AP) – Two men led Panhandle sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed, late-night case and then ran from the car leaving two frightened children inside.

According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, deputies chased the car through several intersections early Saturday morning. Although it was dark, the car’s lights were off and it was being driven erratically. A bottle of alcohol was thrown from the car.

The car eventually stopped and two grown men ran into the darkness, leaving a 4-year-old and 5-year-old child behind. The children were placed in the custody of Florida’s Department of Children and Families and deputies have continued their search for the men.
