Two men arrested in horse meat case

1 min read

MIAMI (AP) – Miami-Dade police say two men arrested for selling horse meat may not be connected to the nearly 20 horses found slaughtered in South Florida.

Authorities say they arrested 53-year-old Roberto Aguedo Chavez and 45-year-old Ricardo Olivarez for selling 10 pounds of meat to an undercover officer. Police said a freezer was filled with meat.

Both men are charged with doing business without a license. The charge will be changed by the state attorney’s office to selling horse meat for human consumption.

It’s legal for a person to kill their own horse and eat the meat, but illegal to sell the meat.

Police said Wednesday they don’t think this case is related to the horse killings, which may be linked to a black market demandt.
