Deputy allegedly extorted pot grower

FORT LAUDERDALE (AP) – A Broward County sheriff’s deputy allegedly accepted cash from a marijuana grow house owner in exchange for not arresting him.

Sheriff Al Lamberti said Monday an internal affairs investigation is ongoing, but 9-year department deputy Manuel Silva probably wasn’t acting alone.

Silva allegedly showed up at the grow house last week in plain clothes, but carried his badge and gun. To sweeten the deal, investigators say he even told the marijuana grower who turned him in.

Silva was arrested Friday after picking up an unspecified amount of cash.
