Woman appealing death sentence

1 min read

TALLAHASSEE (AP) – The only woman on Florida’s death row is appealing the sentence she received for the murders of a Jacksonville couple.

The Florida Supreme Court heard arguments in the case of Tiffany Ann Cole, 27, that included her claim she didn’t know co-defendants planned to bury the victims alive.

She was sentenced to die for her role in the 2005 murders of James and Carol Sumner who also were robbed of jewelry and cash.

The victims were kidnapped at gunpoint and driven to their grave in Georgia in the trunk of their car.

Two men also have been sentenced to death in the case and a third is serving a 45-year prison term.
