Manatee County deputy shoots suspect
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a Manatee County deputy shot and wounded a possible burglary suspect who tried to run the deputy over.
The sheriff’s office says that deputies were trying to pull over 18-year-old Jakob Cunnien on Wednesday evening for driving with a suspended license. Deputies also suspected Cunnien was involved in several recent break-ins. After a short chase, patrol vehicles blocked the roadway and forced Cunnien to stop.
Investigators say that a deputy ordered Cunnien out of his truck, but the teen backed up toward the deputy. That’s when authorities say the deputy shot Cunnien in the arm. The teen was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Cunnien faces several charges, including aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.
