Mother of slain South Florida student to speak
MIAMI (AP) – The mother of a teenager who was fatally stabbed by another student at a South Florida high school is speaking about the incident for the first time.
Anais Cruz, the mother of Juan Carlos Rivera, was scheduled to speak at a news conference Thursday. Cruz had traveled from Cuba to bury her son. She has hired a law firm to represent her.
Authorities say Rivera was stabbed to death last month by 17-year-old Andy Rodriguez at Coral Gables Senior High School. Rodriguez is charged with second-degree murder.
The Haggard law firm wrote in a news release that “this violent crime is the latest in a string of recent incidents on Miami-Dade County school campuses.”
