STUART (AP) – Authorities say a Stuart woman stabbed her dog to death in her bathroom.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies responded Sunday night to a disturbance at 23-year-old Cassandra Danielle Lauderdale’s home. People at the home told deputies Lauderdale took the dog into the bathroom and stabbed it in the bathtub. The witnesses said they could hear the dog yelp.

One deputy reported that Lauderdale said she had the right to kill the dog, and it was no one’s business.

Deputies found the dog dead with several neck wound in the home’s backyard. They also found blood and a knife in the bathroom.

It’s not clear what led to the alleged attack.

Lauderdale was charged with animal cruelty. She was being held on $2,500 bail.
