Man fatally shot in struggle with Bradford sergeant
STARKE (AP) – Bradford County authorities say a 44-year-old man was fatally shot during a confrontation with a sheriff’s office sergeant.
It is unclear whether Joe A. Prevatt was killed with bullet from his firearm or from the .40-caliber Glock 22 that Sgt. Kevin Mueller carried.
Mueller was investigating a fruit stand robbery when he went to Prevatt’s mobile home Monday afternoon. Sheriff’s Capt. Brad Smith said that Prevatt started to shoot at the sergeant when a struggle ensued. Mueller returned fire.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting.
