Tampa gets its first female police chief
TAMPA (AP) – Tampa has its first woman police chief.
Mayor Pam Iorio introduced Jane Castor as the city’s next top cop in a news conference Wednesday.
The 49-year-old Castor has been with the department for 25 years and most recently served as assistant chief of operations. She replaces the retiring Steve Hogue.
During her tenure, Castor has worked in patrol, narcotics, family violence and sex crimes, and criminal intelligence.
The University of Tampa alum is also a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy.
Iorio will ask the city council to confirm Castor’s new position on Oct. 1. She’ll be paid $144,394 annually.
