County seeks ex-speaker’s House resignation
PANAMA CITY (AP) – Panhandle Republican leaders in Bay County want scandal-plagued former House Speaker Ray Sansom of Destin to resign his House seat.
The county’s Republican Executive Committee passed a resolution after voting via e-mail on Tuesday. The resolution encouraged Sansom to resign.
Sansom faces charges of official misconduct and perjury related to the alleged earmarking of millions of dollars for the construction of an airplane hanger to be used prominently by a private developer and Republican donor.
Stephen Dobson, Sansom’s Tallahassee-based attorney, said he was disappointed in the resolution and that Sansom’s district doesn’t include Bay County.
