Florida receives $58M settlement
TALLAHASSEE (AP) – Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum says receive $58 million as part of a federal settlement from pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.
McCollum announced Wednesday that part of the settlement will be reward money for tipsters who report Medicaid fraud.
Federal prosecutors fined Pfizer a record-breaking $2.3 billion Wednesday for illegal drug promotions that plied doctors with cash, entertainment, travel and meals.
McCollum said this was the largest settlement for the Florida Medicaid Control Unit and will ultimately send almost $9.7 million to the state’s General Revenue Fund. Another $10.8 million will go to the state’s Medicaid program for Pfizer’s alleged improper actions.
