Baby sitter on trial for toddler’s death
JACKSONVILLE (AP) – A baby sitter is on trial in Jackonville on charges she allegedly inflicted a fatal head wound on a 2-year-old girl with a fly swatter.
Forty-one-year-old Syna Lim is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the death of Amara Ou three years ago. If convicted, she faces a mandatory life prison sentence.
Prosecutors allege Lim beat the St. Augustine child with the handle of a fly swatter then delivered a crushing blow to the child’s skull. The toddler died of head trauma, three days after she was rushed to Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
Her defense attorney says the injuries could have occurred have been inflicted before Amara was in Lim’s care.
