Company to pay Fla. for inmate call errors
TALLAHASSEE (AP) – A pay phone company will pay Florida $1.25 million for disconnecting inmates’ calls.
The Public Service Commission approved a settlement Tuesday with TCG Public Communications Inc., now part of Global Tel Link Corp., of Mobile, Ala.
A commission investigation found the company’s equipment caused collect calls to be prematurely disconnected at the Miami-Dade Pretrial Detention Center from 2001 through 2007.
That meant redialing to complete conversations and higher phone bills for recipients. The settlement money, though, will go into the state treasury.
