WEST PALM BEACH (AP) – A Broward County man has been sentenced to 31/2 years in federal prison for impersonating a U.S. marshal, including making traffic stops and showing up at crime scenes.

A federal judge in West Palm Beach imposed the sentence Tuesday on 25-year-old Stephen Armband of Plantation. Armband pleaded guilty in April to three charges.

Armband was arrested after he offered to assist police responding to burglary in February. Police said he was wearing a gold U.S. Marshals Service badge and was carrying a gun and handcuffs. Investigators later discovered that Armband had stopped motorists many times using a car equipped with emergency lights.
