Gas supplier, Fla. settle complaints
TALLAHASSEE (AP) – Attorney General Bill McCollum and Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson say they’ve reached a nearly $2.3 million settlement with a major gasoline supplier over price hikes while Hurricane Ike threatened the state.
The agreement was reached with Morgan Stanley Capital Group Inc. and its subsidiary, TransMontaigne Product Services Inc. McCollum and Bronson said it was the largest settlement under Florida’s price gouging laws.
The departments received many complaints about steep gas hikes as the storm approached last year. During the investigation retailers said they merely passed on wholesale gas prices that increased by $1.60 a gallon overnight.
Morgan Stanley’s corporate communications office would only say the company is pleased it resolved the issue.
