HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) – Police are investigating how a screwdriver was lodged so deeply into a 5-month-old baby’s ear in South Florida that it may have caused cranial damage.

According to Homestead Capt. Ed Bowe, police were called to a home at 11:26 p.m. Sunday.

Latasha Bailey, 30, told police that she was in another room of her apartment when she heard her baby boy crying. When she entered the room, she found her 4-year-old son standing next to her infant son, who had a screwdriver jammed in his ear.

Bowe said the baby was flown to a hospital in Miami-Dade County in stable condition.
