Jury recommends death sentence for Lee County man
FORT MYERS (AP) – A jury has recommended the death penalty for a man who was convicted in the death of his infant daughter.
The jury voted 10-2 Tuesday in favor of putting 35-year-old Justin Grodin to death. A circuit judge will make the final decision, but Florida law requires judges to give jury recommendations great weight.
Grodin was convicted on June 17 of killing his 11-month-old daughter Gretchen in April 2000. Her body was found buried in a shallow grave in south Fort Myers the next month.
Grodin will appear in court Aug. 17 for a hearing before he can be sentenced.
