Funeral director charged with dumping remains
HAINES CITY (AP) – A Florida funeral home director has been charged with dumping human remains.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says Claude Edward Holmes Jr. was arrested Monday evening after a maintenance worker at the Oakland Cemetery in central Florida discovered a suspicious bag partially buried between two graves.
Authorities say they found decomposing human organs inside the bag.
An investigation led deputies back to Holmes. According to the sheriff’s office, Holmes admitted to burying the organs of a recently deceased man because they were decomposing and would have caused a foul odor in the funeral.
