Man charged in Lego scheme

1 min read

LAUDERDALE LAKES (AP) – Call it Grand Theft Lego.

Thirty-four-year-old Max Rodriguez of Homestead was arrested Monday after allegedly tampering with bar codes on nearly $400 of the building blocks so that they rang up for under $45. Authorities later confiscated about $7,000 in Lego sets from Rodriguez’s home that were also part of the alleged bar code scam.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office says the man admitted he’d pulled the same stunt more than 300 times at stores across South Florida in the past year. He sold the toys online and out of the trunk of his car.
