Firefighters catch alleged purse theft
FORT PIERCE (AP) – Authorities say St. Lucie County firefighters out collecting money for charity were able to stop a purse snatcher.
Police say four firefighters were in Fort Pierce collecting money for the Treasure Coast chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Saturday when they saw a woman chasing a man later identified as 18-year-old Ezekiel A. Bennett and yelling that her purse had been stolen.
The firefighters caught up with Bennett and held him until police arrived minutes later. They also traced Bennett’s path and found the woman’s purse.
