Police charge man for series of rapes
JACKSONVILLE (AP) – Jacksonville police say a man who is already in jail is tied to several rapes and other crimes over the last decade.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Chief Rick Graham says 48-year-old James Waverly Steel is charged with raping five women between 2000 and 2008.
Police took a DNA sample in December when Steel was convicted of burglary. On Friday, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told Jacksonville detectives that Steel’s DNA matched five unsolved cases.
Steel is facing several charges, including 11 counts of sexual battery.
