Test developer gets national job

TALLAHASSEE (AP) – A state official who has overseen the development and administration of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test is leaving.

Cornelia Orr, the Department of Education’s assessment and performance administrator, has been hired as executive director of a panel that sets policy for a federal testing program that’s known as The Nation’s Report Card. Officially it’s the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

The National Assessment Governing Board announced the appointment Monday.

The FCAT has been the key measuring stick for Florida’s school accountability program put into effect by former Gov. Jeb Bush. That’s also made the FCAT a target for critics who oppose its use to reward and sanction schools.
