Man convicted of killing roommate
JACKSONVILLE (AP) – A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting his roommate as they drove home from a nightclub last fall.
A circuit judge handed down 36-year-old Harens Aleydi Erazo’s sentence Friday. A jury convicted of Eraza of second-degree murder last month for killing 26-year-old Patrick Eugene Donnelly. Prosecutors say the two men were returning from the Ocean Club in Jacksonville Beach in September. A woman in the car told police Donnelly joked about Erazo liking her, and Erazo shot Donnelly from the back seat.
Erazo’s attorney had asked the judge for 25 years, the minimum sentence allowed for the crime. The lawyer described Erazo as remorseful and blamed the shooting on cocaine and alcohol
