Bird entangled in string recovering
MELBOURNE (AP) – A weak and dehydrated water bird is recovering at an animal hospital after its beak was tangled in string for more than a week.
Florida Wildlife Hospital director Sue Small said the bird – called an anhinga and similar to a cormorant – should make a full recovery. That’s despite having been unable to eat or drink for at least eight days.
Viera resident Grace Vista saw the bird in her backyard earlier this month. At first, she thought it had a fish in its beak.
She later realized that its beak was tied shut. One of her neighbors caught the bird Sunday and brought it to the wildlife hospital.
Small said the bird was being fed through a syringe Sunday and would probably be able to eat small fish on Monday.
