Surfer death investigated at Crescent Beach
CRESCENT BEACH (AP) – Deputies say a 25-year-old Gainesville man has died while surfing at Crescent Beach in north Florida.
St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chuck Mulligan says authorities received a call about 1 p.m. Thursday that a man had gone surfing and that he was missing.
Deputies received a call that beach goers had located a man in the water. Rescuers say the man was not responsive, but they attempted to resuscitate him and he was transferred to Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine. He was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
He was identified as Ronald Earl Stiles III. Mulligan says the cause of death will be determined by an autopsy, but foul play is not suspected.
