Bill could repeal some sales tax exemptions

TALLAHASSEE (AP) – A proposed House bill would repeal a few sales tax exemptions and use the proceeds to revive Florida’s back-to-school and hurricane preparation tax holidays.

A House panel began considering it Wednesday and will resume Thursday.

The measure would repeal exemptions for college stadium skyboxes, ostrich feed, hospital physical fitness facilities, charter fishing trips and publications delivered by mail.

It also would lift a partial exemption on pinball and other amusement machines.

Each of the tax holidays would be for just three days: June 5-7 for hurricane preparation items and Aug. 8-10 for clothing and school supplies.

Tax holidays of a week or more were discontinued last year due to revenue shortfalls.
