Man drowns after rough waters flip boat

1 min read

PANAMA CITY (AP) – Authorities say a man drowned when his boat was struck by a large wave as rough weather pummeled the Florida Panhandle.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission identified the victim as 55-year-old Morris Hunter Miller of Tallahassee. He and 33-year-old Archie White were in a 21-foot boat that capsized Saturday afternoon. A National Weather Service high surf advisory – warning of rip currents and high winds – was in effect at the time.

Neither man was wearing a life jacket, but White was able to swim to nearby Shell Island for help. Rescue workers found Miller’s body in the water shortly after 6 p.m.

An autopsy has been scheduled.
