Man charged in nephew’s death
LAKELAND (AP) – Authorities say a Lakeland man is responsible for the shaking death of his 17-month-old nephew.
Police say 32-year-old Matthew Robert Wyrosdick initially reported that his nephew had hit his head on a coffee table after falling from his seat Thursday morning, but doctors at a Tampa hospital said the injuries didn’t fit the uncle’s story. The child died the next day, and an autopsy showed the toddler’s injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
On Saturday, police say Wyrosdick admitted that he shook the boy repeatedly and dropped him on his head several times.
Wyrosdick was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child. He was being held without bail.
