Group says climate change is critical to Gulf of Mexico

TAMPA (AP) – A group of conservationists and elected officials say dealing with climate change needs to be priority when it comes to protecting the Gulf of Mexico.

The activist group Gulf Restoration Network is staging a news conference Wednesday morning in Tampa to demand action from a multistate organization that is charged with protecting the gulf.

The news conference precedes a meeting of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance to hear citizen input on plans to protect the gulf.

The alliance released the first Governors’ Action Plan in 2006, and a second five-year plan is currently under review.
