Teacher gets six months probation in school incident
TAMPA (AP) – A former southwest Florida teacher will spend six months on probation for a battery conviction.
Mary K. Dwyer was sentenced Thursday. She was convicted of two counts of misdemeanor battery on two teenagers during school.
In May, Dwyer allegedly slammed a door on the hand of a 15-year-old student who was trying to get into a classroom to take photographs for the school yearbook. Officials also say she grabbed another student by the arm and pushed him into a wall on the same day.
Hillsborough County officials said adjudication will be withheld from her record if she completes the terms of the sentence. Those terms include 16 hours of community service, anger management counseling and no contact with either victim.
